Survey results are available for Americans’ favorite foodie travel destinations. And its foodie spots south of the border that Americans still enjoy the most.
To determine the world’s best cuisine tasted on vacation, VacationRenter polled 1,000 (mostly) experienced epicurean travelers to find favorite places to eat. Results revealed that Mexico was the country of choice for foodies, but the survey did not stop at Central America. A recent release of the vacation rental company’s findings reveals some fun facts and an interesting global roadmap for foodie travelers and brand-new foodie adventurers.
Italy and France finished a narrow (respective) first and second place for the best food in Europe. That shouldn’t be much of a revelation given Italy’s vast edible expanse and France’s reputation as the originator of Western cuisine. What was a slight bombshell was that the UK ended up third for Europe. English fare might be seen as a somewhat bland and fried endeavor, but London offers some of the best dining in the world, so perhaps the food experts pointed VacationRenter’s queries towards the city. Argentina and Brazil eclipsed the pack for best South American food, although it wasn’t really a contest. Succulent steak, rich cheese and rich sauces dominate the rest of the country’s neighbors just as much as its dual borders dominate the landmass.
In a somewhat surprising twist, Vietnam didn’t make the list, leaving Singapore and Thailand to represent the best food in Southeast Asia. The city-state of Singapore is famous for its seafood, while Thai cuisine is so delicious it’s ubiquitous in the Western world.
Japan beat China, Hong Kong and Korea in the sprint for the best East Asian fare, with the latter two nations not even making the list. Only 46% of people said Japan had the best food in the region and 39% said China, so that would seem to be a more well-distributed answer to the question of countries with the best food. Japanese food can also be extreme, as one survey respondent described.
“I ate a live squid dish in Japan. It was still lively and soulful,” VacationRenter quoted the volunteer as saying.
It was Mexico, however, that dominated the results. Mexican cuisine was the most popular among millennials, the most likely to be recreated at home, and a favorite international dining destination.
