The owner of a Norwich-based Thai take-out restaurant is about to try his hand at a different cuisine, with the opening of a new barbecue smoker for meat lovers.
Andy Davis, owner of Take Thai on Dereham Road, has around 16 years of experience in the restaurant and takeout industry, specializing in authentic Asian flavors.
But now he’s swapping Pad Thai for pulled pork and other juicy barbecued meats, all of which can be brought to your doorstep.
The new take-out will open at Aylsham Crescent near Aylsham Road on Tuesday, September 28.
He said: âEven though I am passionate and knowledgeable about Thai food and culture, I have always been passionate about other foods as well.

âI have liked smoked foods for a while and have spent a lot of time in South America.
“But I don’t want it to be your barbecue or your typical takeaway burger or your restaurant with coleslaw, ribs and fried fries.” I want to bring something different.
Norwich Smokehouse will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
As its launch nears, Mr. Davis and his chef are working hard to perfect their recipes and menu.
This includes pretreating and slowly cooking food in their wood-fired and charcoal oven, to create âtasty and richâ foods.
He added, âThe theme is the smokehouse with subtle influences from different places, like the Caribbean and South America.
âSome of our meats will cook for about 40 hours – it’s a very long process.
âThe chef and I worked like crazy and we played with a lot of different ideas. Our side dishes will be things that have all the flavor, but lack the support.
He continued, âI feel the same energy when I first opened Take Thai. I am nervous and anxious but in a good way.
“We know we’re going to start with something pretty special and we’ll polish it when we open.”
