The best beachfront and overwater restaurants in Langkawi

There are restaurants and there are restaurants by the sea and on stilts in Langkawi.

We’ve all dreamed of it. The evening breeze rushes in to bring with it a current of fresh air mixed with salinity; a timely reminder that we are far from tedious deadlines. The golden sun floods everything in its path with a dazzling radiance; a ritual dance he has performed since the dawn of time as he prepares to retire for the evening. The soft, powdery sand caresses the soles of our feet like a reliable therapist, as inviting as the palm-fringed beach that seems clear before our eyes. The captivating symphony of waves crashing against the oyster-covered concrete pillars lulls us with peace of mind, interrupted only by a courteous call from the waiter who brings us the meticulously prepared dinner. Dining on the beach or on the water is a joyful experience that city dwellers don’t often have. But in Langkawi, you can enjoy it night after night, even on a fleeting vacation.

Cradled by gentle waves, the archipelago is full of high-level restaurants and idyllic beaches. Not only do they serve delicious food, but they also present unforgettable experiences – ones that are remembered for a long time, begging you to come back again and again. They do not satisfy the appetite but the desire to travel and the desire.

Here are the best beachfront and overwater restaurants, from the reasonable price to the ultimate in luxury, in Langkawi to live your fancy. Call ahead to secure your reservation so you don’t miss a thing.

Pantai Tengah’s hidden gem, the aptly named beach house is Instagram worthy for the instant gratifying generation. But if good vibes are all you’re looking for, this place has it in spades. The coffee is perfectly brewed. It serves a variety of appetizers such as tacos, pizzas, fries and burgers, enriched with cocktails, mocktails, house wines and beers. What to order? Tacos and Tiger.

Kayuputi

A St. Regis Langkawi establishment, whether it is food or ambience, you can expect everything to be in top condition. We love the spectacular architecture and the airy, open layout that invites the ocean breeze. A place to spend the evening as if you were transported to the middle of the Andaman Sea, with only a butler in tow. What to order? You would be crazy not to opt for the tasting menu.

6 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Pahn-Thai Restaurant

One of the best Thai restaurants on the island, Pahn-Thai is tucked away around the corner from the sprawling Berjaya Langkawi resort. If the gastronomic authenticity is unwaveringly defended by the chef, you will probably be seduced by the magnificent Matchincang mountain forming the backdrop of this restaurant on stilts, emerging after a romantic stroll over the waters. What to order? Go for the fixed meal, so you spend less time deciding and more time inhaling the splendor.

7 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

Scarborough Fish & Chips

Reasonably priced, the fish and chips haunt requires quite a bit of travel to get there if you are staying anywhere outside of the northeastern tip of Langkawi. In exchange for its secluded location, you mostly get the long stretch of little-visited but beautiful beach. Afterwards, you can retire to this relaxed restaurant for a cold draft beer, in the company of a view that is simply spectacular. What to order? The main course is offered in a choice of red snapper, barramundi, mackerel, halibut and salmon.

10 a.m. – 10 p.m.

The beach club

Located on the private beach of the ultra-luxurious Datai, the Beach Club is a casual restaurant with an open-air show kitchen with fresh seafood cooked on the open grill. Set in lush green surroundings, guests can expect an orchestra of chirping and purring of abundant wildlife, rustling of leaves, and the whisper of the Andaman Sea. What to order? Andaman lobster served in its shell.

7 a.m. – 11 a.m. 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. 6.30 p.m. – 11.30 p.m.

The beach grill

A lodge shaped like twig fish traps located at the far end of the property, this Ritz-Carlton restaurant delivers with a punch of emphasis when it says freshly caught seafood. The dishes are contemporary, reflecting a larger world outside of Langkawi and the island itself, where international cuisine is prepared with a skillful local twist. What to order? The hearty Nasi Lautan Casserole ended with the Ritz.

12 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. 6.30 p.m. – 10.30 p.m.

The cliff

Adjacent to the Underwater World Langkawi Aquarium, The Cliff is a must-see for any visitor to Pantai Cenang. The contemporary restaurant-bar juts out onto the Andaman Sea and offers breathtaking views of the setting sun and the many islets dotting the turquoise waters. The menu includes a wide selection of Malaysian and Western cuisines, complemented by champagne and sparkling wine. What to order? The Aquarius Club with an assortment of seafood and thermidor lobster.
