First look at the design of the planned Hastings restaurant near the waterfront

New restaurant proposed at Harold Place, Hastings

On Monday 4 October, Hastings Borough Council Cabinet backed plans to increase the budget for a now public toilets redevelopment project from £ 1.2million to £ 1.7million. demolished at Harold Place.

The project will see a specially built restaurant on the site, which the council intends to rent to a still unknown operator.

Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Paul Barnett, Senior Advisor for Regeneration, said: “I am delighted that we are on the verge of securing this important new regeneration project for our downtown area.

“We will continue to seek Xvideos Red funding opportunities to support the project in order to reduce costs for the board.

“As an important project in a key area of the city, it is essential that the building is of the highest quality. We don’t think lowering build quality is the right thing to do.

“The development will also provide employment opportunities both during construction and in operating the restaurant after construction is complete.”

Although first approved by the full council in February last year, the project was put on hold by the potential operator until October.

As a result of this delay, the council indicates that the cost of construction has increased compared to its initial estimate.

The council says this is due to inflation in the construction industry and the general impact of the coronavirus pandemic, but also because it now has a clearer and more detailed design.

Finance firm Peter Chowney said: “There are cost increases, fairly significant cost increases, but like [chief finance officer] Peter Grace said borrowing costs have come down, which to some extent compensates.

“It’s not a huge source of income, as you can see from the report. This is primarily a regeneration project to provide a building in a high profile location, which will be a high quality building and also built to good energy conservation standards, using recycled materials in wherever possible and using good quality materials.

“The architects suggested that we do what is called ‘value engineering’, which is basically cutting costs by using cheaper materials, but we decided not to do so in part because it would have made the building less environmentally friendly but also probably not as good either.

“We have kept high quality materials and higher specifications in terms of energy saving and I think we will have a very good building there. ”

A final decision on funding would require consent in a full council vote on October 13, while the larger project will also require a building permit.
