Melbourne restaurants are here for you. While we eagerly await and keep our fingers crossed for food service to make a return, there are tons of some of the best options in town to enjoy right at home.

Here are our top takeaway choices for this week.

Half acre

This gorgeous South Melbourne restaurant recently launched Half Acre at Home, its first foray into takeaway gaming since launching the Food 4 Good online marketplace during the first foreclosure of 2020. There are two banquet options which kill: The Vegetarian Acre includes dishes like the smoked butter za’atar bread, flambéed burrata, and roasted harissa cauliflower, while the Full Acre has it all, plus meatier options such as l lamb over a wood fire with olive-green labneh. But this weekend, there’s also a Father’s Day menu centered around a massive one-kilo tomahawk steak. Expect it to be cooked to perfection with chimichurri, caramelized onion juice, and assorted pickles. Bonus: all dishes are ready to eat, so you can leave the oven off.

Order in line for pickup only from Half Acre or the Mount Erica Hotel on Fridays and Saturdays. The vegetarian acre is $ 95, the full acre is $ 140, and the Father’s Day menu is $ 135.


Peter Rowland Caterer

With at least another month of confinement ahead of us, it’s not much of a party time. And those are the busiest times for leading event caterer Peter Rowland Group, feeding the Victorians at weddings, parties, and any other type of event you can think of since the ’60s. But now, its most famous menu item is available for home delivery. Quartered Chicken Snack Sandwiches are made with incredibly fresh white bread, tender chicken pieces (poached with a few secret ingredients), and homemade mayonnaise. For $ 70, get 16 triangles in a mini basket with a six pack of beers or a bottle of wine. Perfect.

Enter via Laundry x Avani Wines

Last year, Helly Raichura’s Enter via Laundry at Home introduced us to regional Indian specialties, some of which were virtually unheard of in Melbourne. She has a similar plan for Lockdown 6.0, but this time she has recruited the Avani Wines team from Red Hill South to provide complimentary, crunchy wine. While the reheat and eat menu (and wines) will change weekly, this week is an all-vegetarian affair dedicated to the food of the Gujarati people. The “home-style family meal,” as Raichura calls it, includes rotli (Gujarati-style flatbread), bharela ringan (baby eggplant stuffed with peas and sesame seeds) and more, alongside the Crunchy and sour 2020 Amrit from Avani. Pinot Gris.

Order in line to collect at 98 Stanleys Road, Red Hill South, or delivery to select Melbourne suburb, from Friday to Sunday. It’s $ 179 for food, wine, and delivery.


Dodee Paidang

CBD-based Thai street food chain Dodee Paidang has been hit hard by the back-to-back Melbourne lockdowns. “It has been extremely difficult, but I’m still optimistic about the future, says owner Chung Boon Low. “But people still need to eat well – and at a lower cost. To that end, he and his team are serving up $ 10 take out at the Swanston Street store. Delicious and affordable options for those within three miles include pad kana moo grob (crispy pork belly with Chinese broccoli), gai yang (grilled chicken) with rice, pad see ew gai (flat noodles sautéed in chicken) and more.

This impressive Japanese fine-dining restaurant began delivering its superb kaleidoscopic sushi at the start of the pandemic. But it just added a new luxury and beautifully curated sushi option to its in-home offering. Every Saturday until November 20, boxes of his colorful irodori chirashi, or “scattered” sushi, will be available. But given how labor intensive it is, only 20 will be made each week. On a bed of Mashigura rice, you will find 16 toppings delicately arranged in squares. In the regular box, expect grilled sansho eel, dried mackerel with ginger and sesame seeds, aburi scallop and more. But there is also a luxury version with Japanese bluefin tuna toro, Hokkaido king crab with oscietra caviar and abalone.
