Plaza Khao Gaeng: Arcade’s flagship restaurant, by reservation, by Luke Farrell, offers southern Thai comfort food on the mezzanine level. With the name a nod to Thai street stalls “khao gaeng” (curry on rice). The menu revolves around fresh curry pastes from small Thai producers. Some have been pounding pasta for three generations with specialty chilies, turmeric and long pepper in stock. Premium shrimp paste, palm sugar and fish sauce also ensure a strong connection to traditional Thai eating habits.

Fresh ingredients arrive at the Plaza from the greenhouses of Luke’s Nursery in Dorset, which grows aromatic gingers, galangal, citrus fruits, green papaya and delicate leaves, all with floral and fleeting aromas that would have struggling to bear the long journey from Thailand. The restaurant’s signature dishes include ‘Gaeng Som’ bitter orange curry; Wok fried pork ‘Kua Kling’ and sautéed ‘Pad Satoor Goong’.

Plaza Khao Gaeng is at Arcade food hall, 103-105 New Oxford St, London WC1A 1DB. Follow them on Instagram @arcadefoodhall and @plazakhaogaeng
