A SOMERSET restaurant has been crowned Restaurant of the Year – South West, at the Asian Restaurant & Takeaway Awards (ARTA) 2022, Britain’s biggest celebration of vibrant Asian restaurants and the takeaway industry.
Alcombe Tandoori in Alcombe, Minehead, received the award at a ceremony held at the InterContinental Hotel at the O2-London last Sunday.
Hosted by BBC journalist and presenter Samantha Simmonds and magician and famed Magic Circle member Paul Martin, the coveted awards honor the best of the UK’s South Asian cuisine in a range of prestigious regional and national categories.
The score included various factors including flavor, appearance, texture, hygiene and aroma.
Today, there are more Indian restaurants in Greater London than in Delhi and Mumbai combined.
The awards celebrated and recognized Britain’s vibrant Asian restaurants and takeaways and offered solidarity and morale to the industry which is currently facing headwinds including high energy costs, inflation and the impact of the pandemic.
Speaking about the Asian Restaurant & Takeaway Awards 2022, Salik Mohammed Munim, Founder of the ARTA Awards, said, “I am truly blown away by the standards set by the competition and having heard about the exceptional quality and service offered by the nominees, I can confidently say that the Asian culinary industry in Britain is in good hands. Each nominee and winner should be proud of their work.
The awards also offered solidarity and morale to the industry which is currently facing headwinds including the high cost of energy, inflation and the impact of the pandemic.
Salik Mohammed added: “The cost of the energy crisis is a real threat to the sector, and many face the prospect of closing doors after serving their local communities and customers for decades.
“It has been a back-to-back assault on the sector, which was recently reeling and recovering from the pandemic, and post-Brexit staff shortages.
“It was a poignant moment for all of us, to be together and offer moral support and well wishes. I really wish us all the best.
